O.M.G.!!!
So.. The following is what's up. I have always loved painting, both on big canvases and paper. The latter mostly used with watercolor. I absolutely LOVE the effect of watercolor, but I didn't really like wasting paper for practicing. Especially since even for practicing, you still need to have good quality paper and yeah, that's not cheap if you like to practice on a daily basis. Some pieces are definitely worth it, but others will turn out to be a complete waste - other than the lesson taken from it.
So a long while ago, I got a Lenovo Yoga Book especially for drawing. It had ArtRage on it and I made some nice illustrations on it. The screen died however and so I needed a new device, this time looking for a tablet. Don't ask me why, but I ended up with an Android tablet. I had loads of fun illustrating on different apps, but nothing that really mimiced the effect of analog watercolor. Ofcourse, I had seen digital illustrations of other artists who used Procreate and have always been in love with how realistic the digital watercolor illustrations looked. I knew that one day I had to have an iPad.
Well.. That day has finally come!! I can't even tell you how excited I am. I'm absolutely OVER THE MOON! And it did not disappoint ONE BIT. First thing I did, was downloading Procreate. Second thing I did, was buying Vanya's watercolor brush set. Here's the second the second illustration I've made so far:
I'm so amazed by how close it is to my analog watercolor style. It's so realistic, that it's REALLY hard to tell apart digital from analog. I think my brandnew Arches paper will be collecting dust in the upcoming time. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy traditional aquarelle a LOT, it's really soothing to the soul. But as you may have noticed, my life has become quite busy. Digital watercolor is just so mobile and when you make a mistake, it's easily fixed!
Anyhow. I also illustrated a little tulip (my first illustration on my iPad) and even embroidered that same tulip. I'll upload that later this week. I'll probably be sharing more illustrations than embroideries the upcoming time, because digital illustrations can be done without daylight in contrast to embroidery. And with Winter approaching, daylight is becoming very scarce at the moment here in the Netherlands. Especially now DST has ended last weekend aswell.
I do have a special lamp for embroidery which is actually really really good, but I still prefer daylight. I'm curious as to how you deal with it during these dark days!
